- Why was this public event so important?
I live in Ludhiana and people of my city like to celebrate all the religious festivals and public events with great
pomp and show. Recently, the Municipal Authority of Ludhiana organised Independence Day celebration in one of the playgrounds of the city. India
gained its independence on 15th of August 1947 and since then every year the central and state governments of India celebrate this event
enthusiastically. The same event was organised in Guru Nanak Stadium of Ludhiana and it was attended by thousands of people. Many schools and colleges
collaborated with the authorities to
commemorate this event. The Chief Minister of Punjab Capt Amrinder Singh was the
chief guest for the event. I with my family reached there on time and we took our respective seats. The event started with a play to remind and honour the struggle of the freedom fighters. The play was followed by
March Past by police personnel. There were some performances by the youth of the city after which the CM delivered a short speech. He
urged people to maintain the
dignity of the nation and be
grateful to the martyrs of the freedom fight. He then
hoisted the tricolour as the national anthem played in the background. It was such an honorable moment for all to see the national flag
unfurled high in the air. The event
concluded with a cultural dance performance by college girls and boys. This event is significant as it
symbolizes the
strive and pain all the freedom fighters went through so that the next generations would be free of slavery.
